School is a Blessing

Now, Listen Up Because It Seems You Don’t Know
You Have To Live Your Life In A Spiritual Flow
If You Truly Want To Grow
It’s All About You Reap What You Sow
This Is For Those Who Have Eyes See There Are So Many Glories In Harmony
This is for Those Who Have Ears To Listen
You Have To Put Yourself Into A Winning Position
A Clean Heart and Mind Help You Pay Attention
The Seat You Sit In Was Purchased With Blood
It Is A Shame That You’re Treating Our Ancestors Sacrifice Like Mud
Our Ancestors Were Sacrificial Martyrs So That We Could Thrive and Be A Little Smarter
It’s Very Disgraceful and Outright Sin
That You Won’t Explore The Kingdom Within
Your Inner Voice Tells You Right from Wrong
If You Ignore It How Can You Be Strong
You Have To Heed What Your Conscience Is Saying
It’s A Form Of Meditation Just Like Praying
It Helps You Avoid The Traps Which The Evil Are Laying
When You Let The Inner Voice Keep You In Check
This Is The Beginning Of Self Respect
Because No One Has To Tell You What To Do
Be A Leader Of Yourself And Do The Best That You Can Do
Only You Know When You Have Tried Your Hardest
And If You Really Deserve To Reap The Harvest
One Thing In Life Is Guaranteed
Hard Work and Persistence Will Help You Succeed
Losers Claim That They Hear No Voice
And That The Reason They Failed Was A Matter Of Choice
And If They Had Really Wanted To Try Hard
In Any Role They Could Have Starred
Losers Don’t Know You Can’t Learn To Swim
If You Don’t Have The Courage To Jump Right In
They Make Excuses And Say They’re Bored
Yet, They Won’t Lift A Finger And Want Every Reward
But That Not, That Not How It Goes
The Bigger The Effort, The Bigger You Grow
So If You Want To Be On The Winning Team
Practice Makes Perfect Should Be Your Theme
Something For Nothing, Has Never Worked
You’ll Turn Yourself Into A Jerk
Don’t Throw You Life Into The Garbage Can
Because Not Trying Hard Destroys Any Plan
Take Chance, the Chance To Yearn
Train Your Mind To Learn, Learn, Learn
Don’t Focus Your Light On a Nightmare
Or Be Tricked By Deep Despair
Don’t Let Broken Spirits Pull You Down
Into Their Underworld of Permanent Frowns
Misery Loves Company Don’t You Know
The Miserable Delight in Stealing Your Glow
So Let Them Wallow in a Deep Depression
Find A Better Way To Keep Progressin’
You’ll Be Glad, You Took A Stand
Be True To The Voice and Live Life Grand
You Can Live Each Day In The Higher Heights
Or You Can Suffer The Long Endless Night
The Choice Is Yours Will You Go Left Or Right
Be Self-Motivated And Keep The Goal In Sight
The Same Rules Apply, If You’re Smart Or Cute
So It Really Pays To Be Astute
Your Seat Was Purchased With Blood, Sweat and Tears
With Untold Suffering, Multiplied By Years
If You Waste This Opportunity
You’ll Be A Drag On The Community
We Need You Help, We Need Your Visions
But When You Never Try Hard, You Make Bad Decisions
Here’s A Little Something For Your Intuition
It‘ll Help Bring Your Dreams To Fruition
Treat Every Day Like It was A Sacred Mission
Don’t Fall Into The Trap Of Condescension
Look For The Light In Ever Soul
And Use That Power To Be Whole
Walk Proud And Tall In All You Do
And You’ll Be Able To Pull Others Through
Be Like Harriet Or Malcolm X
Pay The Dues To Earn Respect
Your Friends, Family, Kith And Kin
Want You To Be Ultra-Disciplined
Because When You Have Strength Within
You’ll Be Triumphant In The End
You Got To Dig Down Deep For Your Worth
Then Make Your Mark On This Earth
Nothing Ventured, Nothing Gained
To Know the Glory, You Must Feel The Pain
If You Think Life Is Easy And Free
Get Ready For A Life Of Poverty
If You Sit In School and Waste Your Time
You’ll Have A Life If Drugs and Crime
Doing Nothing Makes You Weak
You’ll Never Learn To Reach Your Peak
So Listen Up To What I’m Expressing
From Me To You, School is a Blessing

Queen Philippa: England's First Black Queen

England's First Black Queen, Mother of the Black Prince Philippa was the daughter of William of Hainault, a lord in part of what is now Belgium. When she was nine the King of England, Edward II, decided that he would marry his son, the future Edward III, to her, and sent one of his bishops, a Bishop Stapeldon, to look at her. He described her thus: "The lady whom we saw has not uncomely hair, betwixt blue-black and brown. Her head is cleaned shaped; her forehead high and broad, and standing somewhat forward. Her face narrows between the eyes, and the lower part of her face is still more narrow and slender than the forehead. Her eyes are blackish brown and deep. Her nose is fairly smooth and even, save that is somewhat broad at the tip and flattened, yet it is no snub nose. Her nostrils are also broad, her mouth fairly wide. Her lips somewhat full and especially the lower lip…a

369th Infantry Regiment “Harlem Hellfighters”

First organized in 1916 as the 15th New York National Guard Infantry Regiment and manned by black enlisted soldiers with both black and white officers, the U.S. Army’s 369th Infantry Regiment, popularly known as the “Harlem Hellfighters,” was the best known African American unit of World War I. The regiment was nicknamed the Harlem Hellfighters, the Black Rattlers, which was given to the regiment by the French. The nickname "Hell Fighters" was given to them by the Germans due to their toughness and that they never lost a man through capture, lost a trench or a foot of ground to the enemy. The "Harlem Hellfighters" were the first all black regiment that helped change the American public's opinion on African American soldiers and helped pave the way for future African American soldiers.  Federalized in 1917, the 369th prepared for service in Europe and arrived in Brest, France in December.  The next month, the regiment became part of the 93rd Division (Provisio
