There is a number of ways to clean out and balance. Several have already been mentioned by others. The key for maintaining this is in an intentional lifestyle. Here are a few things you can do directly to speed up cleansing and balancing and a few tips for ongoing maintenance.
The physical body is important (obviously). Water is a powerful element that works in many ways. Stand under a light, natural waterfall, with a straight back, close your eyes and allow yourself to feel the sensation of the water flowing through you washing each individual molecule. Give it time to fill you and wash away tensions. Negative ionization will promote health and balanced emotions. You can get a very light effect similar to this in a cold shower. Laying down in a shallow cool stream on a rock with the water flowing from head to feet has a similar effect. An additional advantage is that, if you can secure yourself effectively, the horizontal position allows more relaxing release and puts you in a harmonic relationship with the earth’s gravity. Swimming in the ocean is harder to let go, but if you can find a calm lagoon the saline water gives additional cleansing and energy balancing effects. A sensory deprivation tank (if kept clean!) works similarly. Floating in natural water (less so a swimming pool) is grounding, cleansing and balancing.
Diet is also important to the physical body (again, obviously). The cleaner, purer, more karma-free the stuff you put into your body, the more ways it will manifest in you as energy, balanced emotions, healing and general good health. If you eat junk food, stop: stop the pop, candy, store bought burgers, fried chicken and so on (homemade with good ingredients is a good start to make the change). This can be hard because mass produced junk food is manufactured to be addictive (oil, sugar, salt). Yet, the single most powerful thing you can do to make life better is to eat well. I won’t preach more on this because I want to respect everyone’s individual ways and there’s just so much information I think you can find what you need just fine on your own or with friends.
Physical cleansing regimens can be as light and simple as drinking herbal teas and taking “superfoods” to as intensive as a long fast. Read up on herbs (I can’t give you a tutorial here and there’s so much online), and start yourself off with gentle acting ones. Cut way back on the coffee as best you can, and also alcohol. Good coffee in moderation is excellent, as is a good red wine, but just get a grip on the overconsumption and self abuse. Gradually replace them with healthful juices, herbal teas and so on. A light fast of one day, once a week is beneficial if you are of generally good health. If not, ask somebody who knows for advice. Fasting is easier if your diet has generally been good and harder if junk food is all you ever get. You might want to wait until you’ve been eating better for a several months before trying a fast. Again, there are many kinds of fasts, but for just a day, you can go with herbal teas, juices and so on. Go to a good juice bar and study up on all the superfood stuff they offer.
Finally, a word on the spiritual. Never let anyone tell you what your spiritual path and practice must be. Nobody. If you haven’t come to it yourself, through your own efforts, it’s not yours. If you are already into something, perhaps your family tradition, look closely at it to see if it’s serving your needs. The essence of all religions is the same: to become a better human being and to understand who we are as individuals in relationship to the entire human and extended families of beings. You can do that as a Christian, a Muslim, a Hindu, a Buddhist, a Pagan, a secular spiritualist, or whatever (I know I’ve left out many — sorry my Sikh friends!). You can try something and go into it as far as it serves you, then change and try something else. Be wary of prescriptive, controlling people selling their beliefs; they are toxic. That said, try to find something that works for you, in a community of practitioners who support and uplift you and stay with it for a while. There’s so much to be gained from a sustained practice.
Okay, this is already way too much information for this forum and I’ve just gotten started (subtle body of work! meditation! yikes) LOL!! I’ve got to go out now. I’ve been doing this stuff since 1974 and I’m not trying to sell you a damn thing. I do not condemn those who make a living on this work if done generously, transparently, without deception and manipulation. This is very important work. Build your community of loving, positively supportive friends! This sort of forum is a good start, but also in the real world. Big, wide open heart to you all.
